Kiki’s Delivery Service

I LOVED THIS MOVIE! My first and favorite Hayao Miyazaki’s film. Kiki’s Delivery Service is one of the reasons I fell in love with Anime. As a child, I wanted to be as kind and cool as Kiki. We all thought we could take care of ourselves at 13. SO seeing Kiki was the first ti
me I saw a 13 year old successfully live away from home for a year. This movie taught me how difficult it would be. Today, I am amazed at how quickly Kiki found housing. Getting housing every semester in college is hard enough for an 18 year old, let alone a 13 year old.

At 14 I hoped to be a witch like Kiki. Honestly, the magic didn’t interest me, ability to fly and talk to Cat JiJi was what truly interested me. I’m not surprised because this movie was released in America around the same time as Dr.Dolittle. Having the ability to talk to animals would be cool but with everything comes great responsibility.

After rewatching this movie, I didn’t realize how many people knew Kiki was a witch. The people in this movie weren’t against them. Kiki had such a large farewell committee. This is unusual on most witch movies. Kiki was in town for like five minutes and a dude, Tombo, started bothering her. I think he’s just interested in her ability to fly. Tombo was that annoying boy character that always wants to hang out, and one day learn he’s not all that bad. As a child I wasn’t rooting for Kiki and Tombo to date, only thought they could be friends. Funny thing is that I didn’t even like boys as a child, and yet I still hoped at my current age I’d have an apartment and boyfriend. Growing up is one hell of a journey. All I know is that I’m Soaring at my own rate! This movie taught me: It doesn’t matter what color dress you wear, it’s the heart inside.
